Imran Khan

Early life and education

Imran Khan was born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, Pakistan, to Ikramullah Khan Niazi and Shaukat Khanum. He was the only son among five sisters. Khan's family was of Pashtun descent, and his parents were educated and socially active.

Cricket Career

Khan's interest in cricket began at a young age. He attended Aitchison College in Lahore and later went to Keble College, Oxford, where he studied philosophy, politics, and economics. Khan's cricket career spanned over two decades, during which he played for Pakistan's national team and became one of the country's most successful cricketers. He was known for his exceptional bowling skills and captained the team to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

Transition to Politics

After retiring from cricket in 1992, Khan turned to politics. He founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996, with the aim of promoting social justice, equality, and corruption-free governance. Khan's entry into politics was met with skepticism by many, but he persevered, building a reputation as a vocal critic of corruption and misgovernance.

Political Career

Khan's political career gained momentum in the 2000s. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly in 2002 and became a vocal opponent of President Pervez Musharraf's military regime. Khan was arrested and jailed in 2007 for his opposition to Musharraf's emergency rule. He was released after a few weeks and continued to campaign for democratic reforms.

Prime Minister of Pakistan

In the 2018 general elections, Khan's PTI party emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly. Khan took oath as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 18, 2018. During his tenure, Khan's government focused on various initiatives, including anti-corruption efforts, economic reforms, and social welfare programs.

Ouster and Post-Prime Ministership

Khan's tenure as prime minister was marked by controversy and opposition. In April 2022, he was ousted from office through a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly. Khan became the first Pakistani prime minister to be removed from office through a no-confidence vote. After his ouster, Khan continued to remain active in politics, leading protests and rallies against the new government.
